When the Ministère des Transports Quebec (MTQ) required a temporary detour solution for their bridge replacement project on Autoroute 40, near Berthierville, a heavy-duty Algonquin Bridge System filled the gap.
Cantilevered launch from one side without lifting equipment
The launch was executed from one side using a fully-cantilevered sequence with a 10-bay launch nose. When all was ready, on-site equipment nudged the structure across the river to the opposite side.
First of many deployments for the MTQ
The contractor, Roxboro Excavation Inc., erected and launched the bridge with guidance from Algonquin’s on-site advisors. The steel decking and parapet systems were installed prior to launch, in order to reduce the amount of work done over the river.
The MTQ will own the Delta system after this deployment, and will be able to reconfigure and redeploy it for future projects. It is designed with a minimum life of 25 years with an average traffic of 13,000 vehicles per day at a speed of 70 km/h.
