As part of the five-year Parks Canada Infrastructure Program, a replacement bridge is being constructed at Bakers Brook in Gros Morne National Park on the Western Shore of Newfoundland.
To facilitate this and other bridge replacements, Parks Canada purchased a re-deployable Mabey Compact 200 Modular Panel Bridge System from Algonquin Bridge. Its first deployment is as a temporary detour bridge at this site. It will be de-launched in 2018 and stored at the Parks Canada yard in Rocky Harbour until the next project.
Kinky is good (for dead load deflection)
To reduce dead load deflection on the bridge, specialized kinked bays were ordered from Mabey Bridge and incorporated into the 60.96 m design.
Algonquin Bridge is the exclusive Canadian distributor for Mabey
Mabey Modular Panel Bridges are innovative and economical bridging solutions for a wide array of permanent or temporary applications. They are easy to ship/handle/assemble and are completely reusable. Designs can be configured for a wide range of roadway widths for up to three lanes. As the exclusive Canadian distributor of these popular bridge systems, we keep an inventory of their components ready to ship across the country.
In 2015, Parks Canada launched the largest program in its history aimed at revitalization of its assets. Over five years, Parks Canada will invest $3 billion to rehabilitate infrastructure assets within national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas across Canada. Over $35 million of that is being invested in Western Newfoundland and Labrador in 2017 for a wide variety of infrastructure improvements.
In 2016, Algonquin supplied a Mabey Compact 200 rental bridge for a similar project at Southeast Brook in Gros Morne.
