Algonquin Bridge recently designed and supplied one of our heavy-duty T1000 Modular Bolted Truss Bridges for the 64 m Gates Lane crossing over the Sissiboo River near Weymouth, NS. The new bridge replaces a century-old truss bridge that had been closed in 2024.
The Nova Scotia Department of Public Works (NSDPW) pre-purchased the structure from Algonquin and tendered the abutment design and installation separately, which was awarded to Dexter Construction.
Bridge was cantilever launched from one side of the river
Difficult site access and a small site footprint dictated that the structure be installed using a cantilever nose launch.
The Algonquin Bridge team supported Dexter with on-site assistance during the assembly and launch procedures on their first T1000 install.
Algonquin T1000 Modular Bolted Truss Bridges use innovative 3.048 m truss sections bolted to top and bottom chord members forming pre-cambered side trusses that carry the applied loads and counter dead load deflection.
This is our second T1000 for NSDPW; we also designed and supplied a larger, 80 m span at Mira Gut on Cape Breton Island.
