Lundbreck is a hamlet in the southwestern corner of Alberta in the Municipal District (MD) of Pincher Creek No. 9. The MD needed to replace the old single-lane Fisher Bridge over the Crowsnest River that had been closed for more than three years due to failed abutment structures. They purchased a versatile and easy-to-install Algonquin Modular Bridge System for its replacement.
Sure-Seal Contracting was awarded the installation project and they reached out to us for additional advice and support. This time-lapse video from Sure-Seal gives a good end-to-end overview of the project.
In the winter of 2023, Sure-Seal lowered the old bridge onto a specially rigged I-beam trailer positioned on a timber running surface on the ice below. The bridge was taken away to be cut apart and recycled. After the spring thaw, Sure-Seal prepared the new abutments to be ready for the new bridge.
The 30 m Algonquin Modular Bridge System was assembled in a nearby laydown area and transported to the site in one section by the same trailer rig, right up to the edge of one abutment and partially hanging over the river below. A crane on the opposite side then pulled the bridge across to be positioned on the other abutment. The new bridge opened to traffic in July of 2023.
Modular Bridge Systems ready to ship across Canada
The new 30 m single-lane bridge features epoxy-coated-aggregate panel decking and is rated for a CL-625 design load. All components are hot-dip galvanized for maximum durability.
Algonquin Bridge provides turnkey Modular Bridge solutions that are affordable and streamline the construction process, saving both direct and indirect costs. These bridges are easy to assemble with local crews and are completely reusable. Assembled bridges can be cantilever launched from one side or they can be crane-lifted into place.
Algonquin maintains an inventory of these popular bridge systems, ready to be shipped anywhere in Canada for permanent or temporary applications like detour bridges or emergency washout replacements.
