This project is a great example of Algonquin Bridge and our AIL Group sister company, Atlantic Industries Limited (AIL), packaging products to provide the customer with a one-stop solution — in this case, an Algonquin Modular Panel Bridge and abutments.
AIL was already engaged on a Nova Scotia Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal project to replace an older span bridge on Highway 3 at East River with a new Super-Cor buried bridge solution. Algonquin was to provide the temporary detour bridge from our in-stock rental systems. However, after our order was placed, the contractor determined that precast abutments with timber backwalls were the best options and a change was required. Algonquin and AIL came together to expedite designs for both systems on a quick turn-around.
Efficient communication key to completing rental detour bridge project
There were a lot of hands in this project — from multiple departments at Algonquin Bridge and AIL, to the client and the contractor. Efficient communication and “buy-in” from all parties ensured a smooth delivery and installation.
Due to the narrow isthmus setting between an ocean cove and a small lake, a single-lane detour bridge was selected and equipped with automated signals to alternate traffic flow.
