A recent project to replace an old single-lane bridge in Gananoque, Ontario, was a good demonstration of the Algonquin Modular Panel Bridge System’s versatility and the talents of our in-house engineering and fabrication teams. The new bridge had to fit perfectly into the existing abutment seats, so many components had to be custom-fabricated in-house to meet the non-standard width restrictions.
The project required a quick turnaround, from time of order to having the bridge on-site. By prioritizing the project and test-fitting the bridge sections at our facility, we were able to both expedite the design/fabrication and be extra confident with the fit.
After the bridge drawings were issued, it was determined that the contractor would not be able to jack the bridge down onto its bearing seat after launch. Our team responded by offering a second drawing submittal, detailing the loads and procedure to perform a “pick and drop” using a crane rather than a jacking system.
Algonquin Bridge met with the contractor and owner on-site after the bridge was installed. They were happy with the result.
There are several bridges over the Hudson River in Gananoque. This bridge replaced an historic single-lane truss bridge located near a school and a rowing club. There is a proposal to incorporate sections of the old bridge into a nearby park to honour the bridge’s history.
