“Wayne Bridge #11” is one of 11 bridges on Highway 10X that runs along the meandering Rosebud River through the Alberta Badlands to Wayne, a former coal mining town of 2,490 people which now has a population of only 35.

Located within the broader township of Drumheller (famous for its dinosaur museum), the ghost town of Wayne is now a tourist attraction paying homage to their historic past. Highway 10X is also known as the scenic “11 Bridges Route” and it holds a Guinness World Record for having the most bridges within the shortest distance (six kilometres). Most of these original bridges were built in the early 1900s to carry coal from the local mines, and they are gradually being replaced. In this case, after evaluating five proposals, the town chose to go with the more economical design-build proposal from Sure-Seal Contracting using an Algonquin Modular Panel Bridge System.
The bridge components were delivered, assembled on site and cantilever launched into place by the Sure-Seal team. Kudos to them for a job well done!
Plans underway to replace “Wayne Bridge #10”
Plans are also underway to replace “Wayne Bridge #10” with one of our bridges. We look forward to potentially being teamed with Sure-Seal again on that project. We also worked with Sure-Seal on the Fisher Bridge replacement, another permanent Algonquin Modular Panel Bridge installation in Lundbreck, Alberta.
In 2020, an Algonquin Modular Panel Bridge System was used as a temporary detour bridge when Bridge #4 was replaced.
