Our talented fabrication crews are currently working on the longest Vehicular Girder Bridge ever designed and built by Algonquin Bridge. Designed to be reusable, the 28.8 m span is being prepared for the Ministre des Transports Quebec (MTQ) for use as a detour bridge at Canton de Restigouche, near Matapédia in the Gaspé region.
Building steel girder vehicular bridges and relationships
This project highlights the value of earned trust in relationships, as Algonquin has had several successful projects with the MTQ in the past and our Eastern Sales Manager, Joel Vallée, had also recently supplied a bridge to the MTQ in this same district. This latest contract was awarded without going to tender, due to the urgency of the situation.
This scenario lends credence to one of the mantras we use among our team: We’re not just building bridges, we’re building relationships.
Steel bridge wire wall abutments provided by AIL
Another important factor in this project is the synergy between Algonquin Bridge and our AIL Group sibling, Atlantic Industries Limited (AIL). Claude Desrochers, VP Transport with the project consultant, Tetra Tech, is a very good contact of Gerald Dubé from AIL, who sold the MSE Wire Wall abutments for this bridge.
Due to the length of the span, our Engineering team had to take a close look at the project before saying it was feasible. So far, the customer is pleased with the speed and quality of our work and the bridge is scheduled for delivery in late September.
