When the Ministère des Transports Quebec (MTQ) required a temporary detour solution for their bridge-replacement project on Autoroute 40, near Berthierville, a Heavy-Duty Algonquin Modular Panel Bridge System filled the gap.
“Bailey Bridge” was launched from one side of Quebec river without lifting equipment
The launch was executed from one side using a fully cantilevered sequence with a 10-bay launch nose. When all was ready, on-site equipment nudged the structure across the river to the opposite side.
Modular Panel Bridge system will be redeployed by the MTQ
The contractor, Roxboro Excavation Inc., erected and launched the bridge with guidance from Algonquin’s on-site advisors. The steel decking and parapet systems were installed prior to launch, in order to reduce the amount of work done over the river.
The MTQ will own the Heavy-Duty Algonquin Modular Panel Bridge System after this deployment, and will be able to reconfigure and redeploy it for future projects. It is designed with a minimum life of 25 years with an average traffic of 13,000 vehicles per day at a speed of 70 km/h.
