An Algonquin Modular Panel Bridge with pedestrian walkway is keeping both vehicular and pedestrian traffic flowing along busy Gaetz Avenue while a permanent replacement bridge is being built.
The existing bridge over Waskasoo Creek was a cast-in-place concrete arch culvert originally constructed in 1912 and widened to four lanes in 1957. As part of a project to replace the bridge, upgrade utility lines and improve flood control, the city required a two-lane temporary detour bridge with a dedicated pedestrian walkway to minimize the impact of the construction. We also provided 10′ deck extensions for each end of the bridge which reduced earthwork and the need for backwalls and wingwalls.
The rented detour bridge was critical to maintaining the project schedule. Fabrication of custom components was required before delivery and this required clear communication between the contractor and our team. Installation of the bridge bearings and anchors revealed some discrepancies between the drawings and the parts on hand, but our on-site representative and our dedicated engineering team resolved the problem quickly.
