Three new bridges support The Fort’s golfers

Algonquin Bridge was pleased to have been selected for the design and supply of three Prefabricated Bridges as part of a major upgrade and expansion of the Fort McMurray Golf Club.

Ready for Canadian PGA Tournament
We worked closely with our project partners to design, supply and install the bridges in a tight timeframe ahead of the 2014 season and an upcoming Canadian PGA Tournament — The 2014 Syncrude Boreal Open.

Multi-team coordination ensured project success
Our team approach, in conjunction with our sister company, Atlantic Industries Limited (AIL), ensured project continuity from the conceptual stage, through design and fabrication, all the way to the installed finished product. The order was confirmed on January 28, 2014 and constant coordination between sales, engineering, manufacturing, shipping and installation teams ensured everything was completed by April 10.

One of the bridges replaced a timber frame bridge on the eighth hole of the existing course. The new version was longer, more robust and on GRS/Pile Abutments upstream to alleviate previous erosion and ice issues. The other two bridges were installed as part of an 18-hole expansion slated to open for the 2015 season.

Design continuity over old and new courses
With their gracefully arching truss designs, naturally weathering finishes and timber decking, the new bridges reflect their natural surroundings and offer design continuity over both courses.

About The 2014 Syncrude Boreal Open
Now in its fourth year, The 2014 Syncrude Boreal Open, presented by AECON, will take place June 16-22 at the Fort McMurray Golf Club, with 156 of some of the best golfers from around the world competing for a prize of $150,000.

    In the spring of 2020, ice jams on the Athabasca and Clearwater rivers in Fort McMurray led to severe flooding and the complete closure of the City’s downtown core, causing over $522 million in insured damage to the wider area. The Pond is part of the historic, 114-km Shubenacadie Canal System that once connected the Bay of Fundy to Halifax Harbour via a series of canals and locks between inland lakes and rivers-- all along an ancient Mi'kmaq canoe/portage route.

  • Ste. Anne, Manitoba replaces popular Emile Champagne Bridge

    The Town of Ste. Anne is a small community southeast of Winnipeg that is very proud of its bilingual heritage of almost two centuries. The picturesque, tree-lined Seine River meanders through the town with the aging Emile Champagne Bridge providing a shortcut from the main business district to Redemptorist Park and Villa Youville on the south side. Unfortunately, the old bridge had been restricted to foot traffic only in recent years and its service-life was basically over.

    A graceful, painted Bowstring Truss design from Algonquin Bridge frames up a rather beautiful view of St. Margarets Bay for motorists entering the area via the new Highway 103 connector at Ingramport, near Halifax. However, it's the trail users who really get the best views as they cross the new span on the historic rails-to-trails route.
