When a 1.3-km road was being created to open up a potential 2,000-home development near Kitchener, Ontario, there was going to be a great deal of earth moving required. Heavy construction vehicles would be criss-crossing the hilly terrain that was home to two endangered species and Strasburg Creek.
The project team needed a short-term solution that was robust enough to carry heavy off-road equipment like: Volvo A30D Rock Trucks, GMK5240 and GMK6350 Mobile Cranes, and a HS218 Crawler Crane (pile driving). The HS218 Crawler Crane governed the design with a total weight of 191,000 lbs.
They opted to rent two heavy-duty Algonquin Modular Panel Bridges from Algonquin Bridge.
Our heavier-duty versions of Algonquin Modular Panel Bridges combine large, deep, modular panel units with a selection of decking systems to create a system able to take heavy axle-load vehicles over spans of up to 81 m.
The install crane was booked well in advance, so the bridges had to be assembled and ready for the installation date. We stayed in consistent communication with the contractor to ensure the bridge was delivered on schedule and visited the site to offer some pointers to the local assembly crew. Everything was built on time and went smoothly, despite it being this crew’s first experience with a Modular Panel Bridge.
We stock a wide range of Algonquin Modular Panel Bridge Systems and components for both short- and long-term rentals.
