This trail bridge solution uses the made-in-Canada Algonquin R800 Modular Panel Bridge System to create a 40 m by 3.15 m river crossing with vertical picket safety rails and epoxy-aggregate coated steel decking panels. The trail bridge, locally known as the Gut Bridge, is a vital part of the trail system that ties Pictou to the larger regional and national networks, including the Trans-Canada Trail, Nova Scotia’s Blue Route cycling network and the International Appalachian Trail.
Following a devastating fire in July 2022 that destroyed the original bridge, efforts had been underway to restore this critical connector. The federal government partnered with the local municipalities as well as the province to help fund its replacement. Algonquin has developed a specialty in recreational trail and pedestrian bridges, making the R800 Modular Panel Bridge a strong fit for the project.
