Algonquin Bridge supplied an 18.3 m R800 Modular Panel Bridge to CFB Valcartier in under four weeks, allowing the contractor to install the temporary bridge before winter set in.
The contractor originally specified a 15.2 m bridge, but later determined that a longer span was required. Thanks to the modular design of the R800, extending the bridge was straightforward and had minimal impact on the overall project cost. A timber deck was also initially requested; however, to accelerate delivery, Algonquin proposed a steel deck using components already in stock.
The project involved a temporary “over-bridging” application, with the R800 installed over an existing bridge until it can be permanently replaced. Algonquin’s adjustable approach ramps were also used to expedite the installation. CFB Valcartier will keep the bridge and adjustable ramps onsite with plans for redeployment on other bridging projects in the future.
The bridge had a Military Load Classification (MLC) of 40, but our design can achieve an MLC 120 classification, significantly increasing its military load capability.

As the only made-in-Canada system of its type, the Algonquin R800 Modular Panel Bridge System is an innovative, economical solution for permanent and temporary bridging applications. Components are ready to ship, enabling efficient assembly using local crews and equipment.
Built for strength, speed and flexibility, the R800 is supported by a Canadian supply chain and in-house engineering. Bridges can be cantilever launched from one side or crane-lifted, enabling rapid deployment for applications ranging from infrastructure rehabilitation to military bridging.
