When a failing bridge needed to be replaced on Veley Road in Hilliardton Township, two Algonquin Modular Panel Bridge Systems played a part in the solution. A rental pedestrian bridge served as a temporary crossing while a larger vehicular bridge was installed as the permanent solution.
The crossing served only a small number of residents living very close to the bridge on the far side. During demolition of the old vehicular bridge and installation of its replacement, those residents had to park on the far shore and could only access their homes on foot or by ATV.
Sections shipped pre-assembled due to tight site
The snug valley site offered very little room for the typical assembly and launch of the two bridges, so they were pre-assembled at our Thorndale, Ontario, plant and shipped to the site in sections. The vehicular bridge reused existing piers as temporary supports during the installation sequence.
We also prebuilt the treated timber decking in sections, which were nested inside the bridge sections for shipping. Consistent communication with the contractor ensured the project was completed on time. An Algonquin Bridge representative assisted on-site during the installation.
